Privacy Policy If You Are Under the Age of 13:

I’m glad you are interested in reading, writing and books! Thank you for visiting my author website for information and resources. Please know that I’m happy to answer your questions. But before you email, sign up for news notification, subscribe to the blog or enter a contest, you MUST have your parent or guardian review this information:

DianneOchiltree.com is a non-commercial, educational web site directed at adults. However, because the topic is children’s literature, we understand that some kids may be attracted to it. It is our desire to protect these younger visitors. Therefore please note that we are in compliance with The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act as follows:

Name and Contact Information of Site Operator: Dianne Ochiltree, Ochiltree Books LLC, 15 Paradise Plaza, #166, Sarasota, FL 34239; Dianne@DianneOchiltree.com. The information collected from children would be limited to:

  1. Email or USPS address if a personal email or letter was sent to the site operator.
  2. Name if said email or letter is signed.
  3. URL of a website if included in an electronic signature file or the text of a letter.

This information would be collected directly by the operator. All data is held in confidence, with the intention that no information will be knowingly shared with any third party.

The information would be used to answer questions about the site or children’s literature, or perhaps to encourage a young writer/student, via one email response per inquiry. Anyone submitting an entry to a give-away contest on the site will be invited to subscribe to free newsletter about the author’s upcoming publications or appearances, but would be under no obligation to do so.

No information gathered will ever be disclosed to third parties; however, visitors should be advised that some sites linked to/ from DianneOchiltree.com may be commercial in nature and may utilize information-collection technology and procedures of their own.

We understand that the COPP act provides an exception for collection of a child’s email address without getting the parent’s consent in advance. These exceptions include contests, online newsletters, homework help, and electronic postcards. However, we require that anyone under 13 get parental or guardian permission, or have either their parent/guardian subscribe/write for them.

At any time, a parent may revoke his/her consent, refuse to allow the website operator to further use or collect their child’s personal information, and direct the website operator to delete the information. In turn, the operator may terminate any service provided to the child, but only if the information at issue is reasonably necessary for the child’s participation in that activity. For example, the operator may require children to provide their email addresses if they are going to receive a regular, online communication about the author’s books or events, or a special communication about creative writing, etc. If the parent/guardian requests that the email be deleted from the operator’s access, then the operator has no way to continue providing the notices or resources to the child.
